My name is Lisa Nelson Armosky and I ‘m an early childhood educator with over 2 decades in the classroom and degrees in Psychology and English from the University of Texas at Austin (Hook ‘Em”). As a single mom of twin girls headed to college next fall, I know how hectic life can get. With the prospect of an empty nest looming on the horizon, I was left wondering what the next chapter of my life would be. I looked into the corporate world, but they didn’t seem to know what to do with me. And quite frankly, I’m not sure what I would do behind a desk 8 hours a day. If I could somehow convey in a 2 page resume all the skills 26 years of teaching gives me, I would qualify to be the CEO. The problem is most of corporate America- well most of America- doesn’t understand what it means to be an early childhood educator. In fact, most of America doesn’t understand early childhood at all. The fact is, early childhood is foundation building. It is the key to not only individual success, but to changing our world. Any engineer will tell you that a building with a weak foundation cannot reach great heights and will soon crumble. Any neurologist will tell you the first 5 years of life are critical for language, math, and emotional development (just to name a few). Children with poor early childhood foundations are more likely to not graduate high school, more likely to experiment with drugs, and more likely to be incarcerated. We value engineers and require years of education and training. We don’t value young children. Early childhood educators are treated like babysitters but paid less than the average 16 year old. Parents are thrown into the deep end to rely on gut instinct and experiences from their own childhood. But what happens if you didn’t have the best experiences growing up? What if your child has special needs? What if you have multiples, or an only child, or both work, or…. or… or… It can be overwhelming. Where do parents go to get real help? That’s when I knew I wanted to create a place for parents and educators alike to find resources, support, and the tools to give their children the best foundation possible. I wanted to start a revolution and build an alliance willing to fight for the best interest of children. And with that, Allied Parenting was born. I want to be your ally.
